Casa de Campo Tourist Port
Inaugurated on December of 2002, the Central Romana Corporation had created the most innovative private port of the Caribbean, investing over 250 million pesos and extending the existing port by over 40,000 square meters. The port is a modern platform and harbor terminal, with a capacity for two large modern cruise ships, this wharf located in the Romana River, represents another success for the tourist development zones of Casa de Campo, Altos de Chavón, La Romana and Bayahíbe. The port is situated nearby the La Romana International Airport and Casa de Campo.
The Port of La Romana has come a long way over the last century, when it was utilized primarily for the docking of commercial ships, primarily for the transport of sugar and molasses. Upon exceeding the capacity of its port, the Central Romana Corporation built its new tourism focused port on the east side of the river.
Today the new facilities boast two docking platforms (East Dock: 255 meters in length, West Dock: 225 meters in length), a 1,000 square meter passenger terminal and parking facilities which accommodate 24 buses.
The cruise ships using the Port of La Romana, Casa de Campo, enjoy the top facilities, designed specifically for the necessities of their travelers, providing them with all the necessary services for local tourism stops, as well as the embarkation and disembarkation process. The Port of La Romana is operated directly by the Central Romana Corporation, and has created over one hundred new local jobs.
The Port of La Romana is strategically located in the central area of the eastern part of the country and serves as a connection point to all the tourist development areas of the region.
