Central Romana Corporation

Romana Free zone

Zona Franca La Romana

The La Romana Free Zone (ZFR) was the first free trade zone in the Dominican Republic, and has been one of the greatest positive contributions the Central Romana Corporation has provided to the country, not only in terms of economic benefits but in the considerable employment opportunities that it has created. This has helped ensure the company's position as the predominant provider of jobs in the country. The free trade zones have fostered high-value manufacturing industries, whose products are exported primarily to the United States, and require a considerable amount of skilled manual labor.

The creation of the country's first Free Trade Zone began with the support of the Dominican Government and the ingenuity of the Central Romana Corporation. The collaboration of private and public sectors permitted the realization of a great vision, where the Central Romana Corporation provided the initial concept and capital and the Dominican government provided the necessary permits and incentives necessary for its successful implementation.

The La Romana Free Zone (ZFR) has served as the inspiration and template for the creation and development of other industrial parks in the country. Today there are 51 free trade zones scattered around the Dominican republic. The La Romana Free Zone currently employs over 8,000 people.
