Social Commitment
The Central Romana Corporation is committed to being a positive social force to the Dominican Republic, and more specifically to the city of La Romana, contributing and organizing charity work for the city and other towns in the region. From donations of lands and street reconstructions, to the building and maintenance of the town’s aqueduct for potable water, the company is continuously involved in finding ways to create a positive impact on its community. The company has been a great supporter of education and makes large investments in the education sector, even maintaining a bilingual (English-Spanish) school that goes up to the secondary level.
Central Romana has built and currently runs 64 schools, which are all owned by the company and located through out the Eastern part of the country. Through an agreement with the Ministry of Education, the company maintains the schools’ premises and classrooms in good conditions, while the government provides the necessary teachers and curriculums needed to meet the national standards.
Today, the company's educational program is able to reach, through its 64 schools, an estimated 11,000 students; a contribution the company is proud to make in the education and future of the Dominican Republic.
The company's social outreach programs also extend to the nourishment of all its employees and their families, providing all their basic dietary needs at cost. To this end, not only does the company subsidize the cost of the meats and vegetables produced by the company, but also a wide range of nutritional products purchased by the company and distributed at cost, while absorbing the cost of distribution. In this same manner, the company built and donated a modern fruit marketplace to the city of La Romana, which is heavily frequented by people from different sectors of La Romana.
The Central Romana Corporation has had an ongoing desire to improve the standard of living of its employees and labor force, to that end it has embarked on various housing projects. Over the last 10 years, the company has built over 1,000 prefabricated homes in the Quisqueya sector of La Romana, all of which have been generously granted to the employees and labor force of the company. In addition to building housing for over 4,500 families, it has also created a unique financing plan for the construction of homes, in which the recipients receive at no interest, financial aid as well as assistance with the construction planning of their homes. These homes have been built through the use of the company’s own resources, technology and manufacturing experience. The company is also the largest contributor to local charity organizations, such as: Hogar del Niño, the school for Deaf-Mutes and the MIR Foundation.
